Frequently Asked Questions

What does a nephrologist do?

A nephrologist is a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases related to the kidneys. This includes conditions like high blood pressure, kidney stones, chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and complications from diabetes or hypertension that affect kidney function.

When should I see a nephrologist?

You should see a nephrologist if you:

✓ Have persistent high blood pressure

✓ Are diabetic with abnormal kidney function

✓ Have blood or protein in your urine

✓ Have swelling in your legs or face

✓ Experience frequent urination or frothy urine

✓ Are told your creatinine or urea levels are high

✓ Are preparing for dialysis or a kidney transplant

What should I bring for my first visit?

Please bring:

✓ All previous lab tests and medical records

✓ A list of current medications

✓ Any reports of imaging (ultrasound, CT, etc.)

✓ Avoid bringing reviews or opinions from other doctors — we prefer to make an independent and accurate assessment.
